Don't Let Me Down
This project began as a small experiment, when I took 2 magnets and put them inside of a frame and got them to hold each other up. At first sight, this was a simple science experiment, but the more I observed, the more compelling the work became. Over time, I was unable to escape it.

The DLMD project is designed to be a strikingly simple, but complex work of art. The concept behind the design are as follows.

The Magnets are there to represent our consciousness. Each human has a unique personality, which can push or pull us to each other. Love, and hate at first sight.

When most people, usually, fall in love for the first time, they think that it will last forever, which, is said in the song made famous by the Beatles. "Its a love that will last forever, because its a love that has no past."

No past, meaning no experience that could taint it. Which, is usually untrue because although there are some rare cases where people do fall in love once, and are happy for the rest of their lives, in MOST cases, we find that we have to learn from the mistakes of past relationships to make the ones we really care for, actually work. So what the song is ironically saying is that we are so naive, that there's nothing that could possibly go wrong and were going to be together forever. Which leads us into the hook, and title of the song, Don't Let Me Down. Repeated over and over, because the hero in the song, the protagonist is naive, and if he knows that you and him are going to be together forever, which you aren't, but as soon as you do, you are going to Let Him Down. But, what we learn from those experiences and those broken connections stays with us forever.

Just like the magnets that parents touching, there's something holding up that memory, and it has to do with the person you used to be with.

This goes a little further though, because of the larger size version that I project building in the future. Many versions. You see, the objects that the magnets are meant to hold up are going to represent the male/rugged and female/smooth psyches. The larger, 5 story versions will have a slightly deeper meaning because of their placement.

I would like to see versions of this project built at cemeteries, and airbases, because in my mind, there is someone that we know, who keeps us going strong though we might not be able to actually touch them or see them, their presence is there holding us up like these magnets do.
